Educated Auckland Girls Grammar School, Auckland University - BA (English/ Music conjoint- also BMus ), Auckland Teachers College, and St John the Evangelist Theological College.

Pursued a secondary music teaching career, along with choral directing and organist posts in Anglican churches. Finally gave away teaching in mid 1990s. Currently Musical Director, St John's, Northcote where she has a chamber choir and team of organists. While being selected by art advisers as a gifted child for advanced tuition, she was determined not to be a "commercial" artist, and could not see the possibility of any other life in art, so as an adolescent pursued a liberal arts education. Art, at that time at Grammar was not for academic girls. Returned to painting briefly in elective art classes for two years at Teachers College, and did papers in Art History at Auckland University, but did no further work until the early 1980s when elected to working membership of the Auckland Society of Arts. Largely self taught, apart from from what was learned from her mother (herself a student at Elam in the days of John Weeks) and has spent twenty years pushing paint privately before making work public. She is of course an older painter but not a "senior" NZ painter in the art world. Her work is not necessarily in the current vogue 'style', but has found a place with serious collectors of NZ art.
