The Choir that was.... In Memoriam - This used to be the choir page from the parish website.

23 April 2009 - 'Ambrosia' is formed. All outside the church's jurisdiction. See HERE Several new faces since this pic was taken.

The former choir had funding from..

THE CHOIR REPERTOIRE

  • Below and herein is recollected a wonderful, fruitful, healthy ministry. Eighteen years of remarkable organ work with a gifted former priest, and for ten years a little choir performing way out of its league to the delight of parishioners and the community. The loss will have repercussions wide and deep for years to come. That's what happens.
  • Deep denial and bewilderment in the parish remnant. Plenty of fear and lies too... We're well out of it ! Pumping petrol for a certain person would be a better option ...
  • See the Swedish film, "As it is in heaven"
  • I have had letters of thanks and support from the RSCM Auckland, and many other organists in like situations. Sarah in Selwyn Chapel Cambridge UK commiserates. Its the tall poppy bit. I waste no more thought on it. The Holy Spirit has gone. Life is good beyond the church.
  • Amazing ! So much easier to make music outside the church. Selective membership. We can and will sing services as we wish as well as concerts. No longer beholden to clerics.

THE MINISTRY OF MUSIC - Using God-given gifts, those called to be in the choir and the organists, made an offering to God alone of their talents, exercising this Ministry, as with all ministries, for the edification and building up of the Church. (So we said then...) Now those gifts have gone elsewhere. Muse has fled.

The choir was a chamber group, (maximum 20 voices, usually 14) and sang challenging, quality liturgical music to a high level of performance once or twice a month. We preferred to do this instead of an unchallenging routine of flannnel each week. We had quite some talent among our numbers - Dorians, Bach Musica, Choral Soc, Sweet Adelines et al

looking for the Lost Chord during communion - yet again!

The organ is in the southern transept and ideally will one day be encased and raised. It's present layout with exposed pipes is the result of a rebuild in the 1970s.  The original builder is George Croft Snr circa 1920s.
